Mel White: A ‘Wolf’ on the Loose in Lynchburg 10/24/2002 "Has God indeed said ...?" The following essay was distributed to thousands of homes in Lynchburg, Virginia, to counter upcoming pro-homosexual activities by Mel White and his group Soulforce.
Mel White and his male "lover" have moved to Lynchburg and taken up residence in a house across the street from Thomas Road Baptist Church. Mr. White is the co-founder of a group called Soulforce. One goal of White and his Soulforce friends is to convince Americans that homosexual acts, such as sodomy, are not condemned by God's Word. Mr. White has a vested interest in this novel approach to the Scriptures since he has admitted that he commits such acts! In a tactic reminiscent of the Dark Ages, Mel would like you to believe that the average person cannot understand the plain truth contained in the Bible; therefore a pro-homosexual "interpreter" is necessary. White and his "theologian" friends ask you to believe that Christians for almost two millennia, and the Jewish people for many centuries before Christ, have all misunderstood what the Holy Scriptures say concerning perverted sexual acts! They would have you believe that the vast majority of Bible scholars and pastors, who rightly hold that God's Word teaches that homosexual acts are sinful, are also wrong. White and Co. do this by distorting the Word of God while playing on the emotions of their audience. Their assumption is that most Americans are ignorant, gullible and easily manipulated. Jesus warned about people like Mel White: "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves" (Matthew 7:15).
We urge you to read the brochure ["What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality," available online] … and understand that Soulforce is not spreading truth and White's lies are not little. Soulforce is in the business of perverting God's Word in hope of gaining support for and silencing all critics of perverted sex. Not only do they twist the Scriptures for this cause, but they also shamelessly appeal to raw emotion. For instance, they make much of the supposed fact that young people engaging in homosexual acts have a higher rate of suicide because society in general and Christians in particular do not embrace homosexual activity as normal and acceptable. In this, they hope to shame people into condoning homosexuality. The truth is, persons involved in many kinds of destructive, immoral behavior such as drug use, adultery, pedophilia, or prostitution have higher rates of suicide. Would Mr. White have us accept and validate any sort of behavior that tends to lead to a higher incidence of suicide? Are we to abandon God's holy precepts and all concepts of right and wrong based on such shameless emotional blackmail? In the coming days, Mel White will be increasing his efforts to influence the public in Lynchburg and intimidate Christians here into abandoning their deeply held beliefs for the sake of the advancement of the sodomite agenda. For the sake of the Word of God, the future of our nation, and the protection of the young and vulnerable, it is our prayer that you will not fall prey to hypocritical liars that stop at nothing to gain approval for dangerous and destructive acts which violate both God's laws of nature and His revealed law, as found in the Holy Bible.
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron. 1 Timothy 4:1-2
