Science is documenting that life begins at conception. It's a baby, living and growing in the sanctity of the mother's womb. The following events occur from conception forward:
· 18 days after, the heart begins beating.
· 21 days after, blood is pumped through its own circulatory system.
· 28 days after, eye, ear and respiratory system begin to form.
· 42 days after, brain waves recorded.
· 8 weeks after, all body systems present.
The baby's development continues.
Babies Can Hear in the Womb
I find it interesting that medical science in the latter 20th century tells us that babies can hear in the womb. They would have discovered this earlier if they had consulted the Bible. The Book of Luke records that when Mary was pregnant with Jesus she went to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John the Baptist. Upon hearing Mary's voice the baby in Elizabeth's womb reacted:
For lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
Luke 1:44
Silent Scream
This video by former abortionist Bernard Nathanson, M.D., documents the abortion of an unborn child. As it happens, we see the child scream while brutally attacked in the womb. Question: What "blob of tissue" screams when assaulted?
The Spiritual, Emotional and Medical Linkage to Life
Recently I visited a neonatal care unit. They told me of a discovery regarding newborn babies, their immune system and the mother. When a child is born and placed on the bare chest of the mother (skin to skin) the following occurs. The body temperature of the mother modulates to that of the baby’s. The baby's immune system is accelerated. In one case, it was determined that a baby would die shortly after birth. The baby was placed with the mother immediately after birth so she could have time with her child while it was still alive. Consequently, the baby's immune system accelerated and the baby recovered.
Abortion As Birth Control: The Case for Abstinence
In America and in many Third World countries, abortion is used as a form of birth control. Yet the one method that guarantees against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS, is the age-old one — abstinence.
Abstinence is great for romance. When sexual immorality is introduced into a relationship, lust and love become confused.
When the man and woman maintain a relationship of abstinence, the emotion of lust is absent and love can blossom without interference. Likewise, it is easier to discern whether one is in love without confusing it with lust.
Love, Not Lust
Lust is a powerful and temporal emotion. True love is deep-rooted and foundational because it is sacrificial. Lust is built upon self-gratification of immediate passion. The rock upon which the house of marriage is built and provides strength and protection is sacrificial love. I recall asking a friend who was married for over 50 years what was the secret to such a long, enjoyable marriage. He said: "The answer is simple: Serve each other."
Love serves the spouse. Lust seeks to be served. Love fulfills. Lust is never satisfied. Serving one another fulfills one another.
Truth or Consequences
Now that modern medicine has discovered the fact that life begins at conception, there is only one question to answer: "Are we going to continue infanticide and go the way of other great civilizations that deemed themselves the final arbiter of life and death, or will we adhere to those values of life established by our Creator?"
To be ignorant of truth is one thing, but once that truth is known and the deed continues then there is compliance. Compliance is guilt, and guilt brings consequences.
To be silent in the presence of truth makes one guilty of rejecting that truth and embracing a lie, with all its consequences.
Life Begins at Conception: The Accountability
The medical facts are in. Life begins at conception. However, the infant holocaust continues. Nearly 60 years ago, there was another Holocaust. Their blood cried out. How will this holocaust stop? Will reasonable people acknowledge the obvious and step forward, or will they be compliant and silent? No nation can escape the consequences of the blood that cries from 40 million aborted children. Every nation can receive God's forgiveness, healing and restoration if there is a genuine change of heart – and actions.
Abortion: Life or Death
The debate over whether abortion kills a human life can best be approached by asking two questions: Is the target of abortion living? Is it human? If the answer is “yes,” then we should treat them like human beings.
