Bush Paves Way for GOP Homosexual Embrace
By Peter LaBarbera
President Bush risks alienating his pro-family base with his outreach to Republican homosexual activists, according to a new report published by the Culture & Family Institute.
According to the CFI paper, in his first 100 days as President, Mr. Bush:
- appointed a homosexual activist, Scott Evertz, to head the White House office on AIDS, despite the well-established link between homosexual behavior and this deadly disease;
- failed to overturn a single Clinton executive order dealing with homosexuality;
- continued the Clinton policy of issuing Department of Defense regulations to combat anti-gay harassment in a military that is required by law to keep homosexuals out of the armed forces;
- presided over the appointment of a liberal homosexual activist, Stephen Herbits, to oversee the choice of civilian personnel at the Pentagon;
- did not hinder the application of a homosexual activist group for consultative status with the United Nations, despite the groups opposition to the U.S. militarys homosexual ban and other gay goals such as legal marriage and lowering the age of sexual consent for homosexuals. (The group, the International Lesbian and Gay Association, lost its U.N.-sanctioned status in 1994 when it was revealed that it counted NAMBLA, the North American Man/Boy Love Association, among its members.)
The Washington Times reported May 14 that Herbits would soon step down from his DoD post (although a military spokesman claimed it is not for political reasons). But CFI Director Robert Knight said the gays-in-the-military advocate should never have been put in the sensitive position in the first place.
This administration seems unable to understand that homosexual advocacy is not popular with pro-family Americans, Knight said. Mr. Bush and his team are creating a brand of Republican gay activism that threatens to further mainstream unhealthy behavior that the presidents Christian faith says is immoral. Compassionate conservativism should not encourage behavior that threatens the body and soul.
God surely does not approve of Republican homosexuality any more than Democratic homosexuality, he said. God loves people caught up in homosexuality. He loves them enough to warn them in His Book to turn from this sin and to help them overcome it.
Knight said the GOP courtship of homosexual voters could seriously erode the partys appeal among Christian and religious voters. He urged concerned Americans to contact the White House (202-456-1414) and urge the President to withdraw his support of from the Log Cabin agenda and support the mainstream pro-marriage values held by his pro-family base of supporters.
