Sadism Activist Dies of Drug Overdose at Chicago Sadistic Event
Stephen Scott Said ‘Leather’ Weekend Was About ‘Exploring Your Own Sexuality’

A death last week at a well-known Chicago hotel gives lie to claims by homosexual and sadomasochistic groups that their activities are “safe, sane and consensual.”

Stephen Scott, 39, of Oklahoma City died at the downtown Chicago Hyatt Regency hotel while attending the International Mr. Leather (IML) contest held there over Memorial Day weekend.

According to a spokesperson from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, Scott was found “unresponsive in bed” by a friend in room 1658 at the Hyatt during the wee hours of Tuesday morning, May 28. “He was taken to Northwestern Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m. The subject checked into the hotel on May 23, 2002. He was at a gay convention party this past weekend with other people and became very ill. The subject was possibly using drugs and was found face up and bleeding from the mouth. Reportedly the subject was HIV-positive.”

The Medical Examiner said that “an autopsy report is still pending toxicology.” However, other Internet announcements of Scott’s death reveal that he died from an overdose of gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), the “date rape” drug and that three other people, including his partner, Gregory Gray, were also hospitalized.

According to his biography on the Sooner State Leather Contest website, Scott was “a medically board certified clinical skincare specialist with a private practice” named Face Beautiful Day Spa. He was also a competitor in U.S. leather fetish contest circles whose titles included “Mr. South Plains Leather 2001” and “ Mr. Sooner State Leather 2000.”

Prior to his death, Scott served “as male co-chair of the National Leather Association (NLA) Oklahoma City chapter” and as a board member of the Oklahoma Pride Network and the Chicago Leather Archives and Museum. Scott also helped found Tribal Fire, an annual Oklahoma leather-sadomasochist event held earlier this year at the Oklahoma City Northwest Hilton hotel that included workshops such as “Suturing and Cutting,” “Body Punching,” and male and female genital-torture seminars.

SCOTT TOUTED ‘KINK AWARENESS’ AT IML
During an April 19 interview about the Tribal Fire event with radio station KTOK in Oklahoma City, Scott said, “One of the greatest things about these events is that people that come to these events are very well educated. They are doctors and lawyers and people who are in the public eye. So we are fully aware of decency acts [e.g., anti-lewdness laws, such as those on the books in Chicago] and knowing time and place, and appropriateness and we respect, thoroughly, other people in the hotel and boundaries.”

Scott added that the thrust of the weekend was about “BDSM and kink awareness [and] exploring your own sexuality in a very positive and productive manner.”

A memorial service was held for Scott at Angles, “Oklahoma City’s hottest gay dance club” on Sunday, June 2, with funeral services held in Tulsa on June 4. In lieu of flowers, donations were requested to be made in Scott’s honor to the Chicago Leather Archives and Museum and the Stephen Scott Memorial Fund in care of the National Leather Association’s Oklahoma City chapter.

HYATT REGENCY SPOKESMAN: “NOT OUR FAULT”
When asked for comment on Scott’s death, Hyatt Regency public relations director Linda Calderon at first referred inquiries to Susan Wright of the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom, a Washington, D.C.-based pressure group for sadomasochists, “swingers” (wife-swappers), multiple-partner sexual relationships and pornographic sex clubs.

When pressed for comment, Calderon refuted the notion that the hotel had anything to do with Scott’s death: “It happened in our hotel, but it wasn’t a hotel-related incident. It wasn’t caused by the hotel’s fault.”

When asked if the Hyatt would host future IML contests or similar events for sexually deviant groups in light of the liability risk involved, Calderon replied, “People die for many different reasons. It doesn’t matter which groups are in-house. People are born and people die. We have various kinds of groups that stay in the hotel, and their views or their opinions aren’t necessarily the hotel’s or Hyatt Corporation’s. We don’t practice discrimination, and if a group has a need we try to accommodate them.”

IML SNAPSHOT: PORN, PERVERSION, AND ‘CHURCH’
IML annually draws thousands of leather fetishists from around the globe to the Windy City. In past years, it has been held at other major Chicago hotels, including the Palmer House Hilton and the Congress Hotel. The Palmer House is scheduled to host next year’s contest. Major sponsors of IML 2002 included Miller Beer and Bacardi Rum. As it does with other homosexual events, American Airlines served as the “official airline” for IML.

The main IML event is the International Mr. Leather Contest, held on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, where contestants are judged on “physique, stage presence, and public speaking ability” and “are expected to dress in whatever you believe shows your physique to full advantage.”

Other activities held at the Hyatt Regency or nearby Chicago homosexual bars in conjunction with this year’s IML, according to its Web site, included:

• “Inside Porn” Magazine kick off party;
• 70,000 square foot “Leather Market” expo;
• “Ten Things Every Leather Man Should Know For Good Health”;
• “Pornopalooza IV”;
• “Master And slaves Together” social gathering for “people involved in or interested in the Master/slave lifestyle”;
• “Mental Health Professionals Discussion Group”;
• “IML Boy Gathering 2002” for “all boys and those that love them”;
• “Leatherwomen’s Meet and Greet”;
• Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) Sunday worship service;
• “Uniform Enthusiasts” gathering; and
• “Black and Blue Ball”.

The IML event coincided with a homosexual “pig” sex orgy for men practicing the most extreme homosexual perversions, such as “fisting” and “watersports” (involving urine). The “pig” event, not official connected to IML, was reportedly held in nearby warehouse in downtown Chicago on May 24.

EVANGELISTS PREACH GOSPEL
Rockford, Illinois evangelist Adrian Horien and one other person attempted to display banners and preach the Gospel message to IML participants on Friday night, May 24. He said that the wind was fierce that evening, but that after arriving at the Hyatt and looking for a protected place to stand, “we found one on the front step of the hotel.”

As a result, said Horien, “We got most of [the participants] coming into the hotel. We were able to stay for two hours, but then the wind ended up overtaking us. We were able to preach during the time there, even though the hotel security came out and challenged us and told us we couldn’t videotape. The hotel guard went in and called the police. They had a plainclothes officer in there who came out and just told us to stay just beyond the hotel’s property line.”

Horien said he was able to preach to the sadists as they arrived for the IML event.

Referring to Genesis chapter 3, Horien said that death is a blessing that God uses to make men examine their lives and call them to repentance before it’s too late. Horien concluded that Stephen Scott ”serves as a marker in the sand” for all people who practice sexual perversion — “much better than Matthew Shepard does.” Shepard, the “gay” Wyoming college student who died in 1998 after being beaten by two men, has become a martyr for the homosexual activist cause.
